When the chips are down and you feel that you are not moving forward this is when you have to keep going, you must persevere.
I like to call it ‘consistency of effort’ for the achievement of your goal could only be around the very next corner and to give up now would be awful.
As we know a clear sign of madness is to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. So to succeed keep the original goal in focus but apply yourself in a different way.
Let’s get down to an example, you set yourself up with the goal of weight loss, toning up and getting in the best shape of your life this year. You want to be in the best shape of your life ever for your summer holiday. You have listed the reasons why you want to achieve this goal and you even visualise the outcome, it feels and looks great and you start work on your plan of attack. Three weeks into your game plan and you feel you are not making any progress the motivation is dropping off and you want to give up. STOP right there!
Look at what you have been doing, can you honestly make any improvements? Perhaps you can re-address your diet and exercise routine. Look at squeezing in an extra ‘high intensity interval training session’ once a week and enhance your healthy eating plan making small but realistic improvements. Nothing has changed you still desire the same outcome. When you are not moving towards your goal and you feel your motivation is on the wane, this is the time to take a personal audit and look at what you are doing and be completely honest with yourself with regard to any improvements that can be made.
A small change to the plan that will bring you ever closer to your goal is perhaps all that is needed?
